On tonight's show: Shaun O'Reilly, Vigilantes and Between Suns
Shaun O'Reilly @soreillymusic
Singer/songwriter (and now author) Shaun O'Reilly counts the likes of John Kennedy (Radio X), Lilian Smith (RTÉ Radio 1) & Gail Porter (Islington Radio) as his big supporters. With his third album in as many years almost here, his very first book and own radio show, not many match Shaun's tireless work ethic and sheer drive, which has seen him tour countless countries on many occasions.
As a wordsmith, he blurs the lines between the melancholic mellowness of Elliott Smith and the blues bark of artists like Captain Beefheart. His fondness for folk and Americana led him to jump on the opportunity to pursue a solo career and express his passion for roots music and contemporary songwriting. His vivid blend of storytelling echoes the work of beat authors such as Charles Bukowski, William S. Burroughs and more modern authors such as Irvine Welsh. His words are poignant and poetic, yet down to earth and extremely easy to relate to.
Vigilantes @Vigilantesmusic
All born on the same day in the same hospital, and In 1 year to be chosen to be part of the unique festival experience of 2020's Radio 1's Big Weekend in isolation and also by Mike Skinner from the BBC Introducing uploader, Vigilantes are turning heads.
Championed by BBC Radio 1's Huw Stephens & Phil Taggart, Vigilantes are continuing the British tradition of taking American sounds and stuffing it with classic British tone. They do it so well that they have been placed on Radio 1's Best Of BBC Introducing playlist and had repeat airtime on Amazing Radio & Radio X to boot. Noted by Fresh on the Net’s Tom Robinson as ‘On a mission’, Vigilantes are known as one of the hardest working live bands in the UK circuit by putting every fragment of energy into live performance. Due to this, Vigilantes have deservedly shared stages with the likes of Circa Waves, The Sherlocks & Fickle Friends.
Between Suns @betweensuns_
Between Suns is a London groove based rock duo, formed in late 2017, featuring Nausicaä on lead vocals, and Paul Lisak on guitar.
Nausicaä , a young French born singer, frustrated with the local pick up acts she worked with in France, decided in 2014 to move to the UK to seek both band and career. Classically trained, her passion was nonetheless RnB, blues and rock, influences ranging from Janis Joplin to Amy Winehouse.
It's there she met Paul Lisak, a London based songwriter and ex front man of the trio After the Ice. Also a successful fine artist in his own right.
Under the guidance of legendary producer Nick Tauber ( Thin Lizzy, Toyah, Marillion etc ) , they decided to become a duo, fusing all their various influences ranging from blues and hip hop to rock and raga.
Between Suns have worked with Ray Burmiston in a photo shoot, and Franck Trebillac on their debut music video "" Sun Ra "". They are currently preparing new releases for end 2021/beginning 2022
