On tonight's show: The Institutes, Longy and Shade
The Institutes @the_institutes_music
The Institutes have wasted no time in becoming national radio’s favourite new Indie rock band, with support from BBC Radio 6 and Radio X catapulting them into the ears of music fans across the country. Formed in Coventry in 2018, this four-piece got to defining their sound in time for recording two sets worth of huge tracks, most of which you might hear The Institutes play on their US tour in 2021.
Sounding somewhere between New Order, The La ‘s and 80s band The Primitives, they bring along a much needed pick me up to these dark days.
Recalling to some extent the euphoric rush of The Las, the heartbeat of The Stone Roses and the melodies of The Lightning Seeds this is a band that relies on songs and they have a massive arsenal of killer tunes.
Recent singles 'Alleyways' & 'Heal In Time' were championed on BBC Radio 6 by Steve Lamacq. 'All That You'll Ever Know' gained BBC Radio 1 airplay.
The band have just signed an LP deal with New Rivals Records in USA and have been signed to UK label 42's Records.
Longy @longy528
Longy is a songsmith/producer from southend-on-sea, Essex, England.
The Seaside storyteller is heavy on endurance,
Calls his own music Gospel trash, likes to rustle your feathers whilst putting an arm around you holding a mirror to your face.
He picked up the guitar cause of Buddy Holly, shouts like Little Richard and says he wanted to make music that sounded noisy, raw and that emulated street sounds, from his days of busking to 500 shows in a year, from breaking his back to chaos in Barcelona, band brawls, tour shambles and fights with promoters, its been a peter pans playground showdown and we haven’t even got an album out yet.
Shade @shade.mcr
‘SHADE’ are a brand new, exciting alt-rock band hailing from the UK’s most vibrant music hub: Manchester. The four piece (Luke, Adam, Macca & Oliver) incorporate a huge, layered, powerful energy into their distinct Manchester sound, and with their striking guitars & punchy, melodic vocals, there are clear influences from their hometown greats. ‘SHADE’ are set to lead the march of the new era of Manchester bands hitting the airwaves.
